Job Description:

SUMMARY:  With supervision, coordinates educational programs focusing on Math for a designated group of academic students.



Essential Functions:

1.     Providing Service:

  • Designs and implements classroom lessons/curriculum in accordance to the Common Core Curriculum and Maryland State Standards in the area of secondary mathematics 
  • Differentiates and modifies instruction to meet individual student needs
  • Supports students with instructional needs
  • Administers state exams per MSDE regulations for high school students in specific content areas
  • Completes paperwork responsibilities (lesson planning, data collection, IEP development, etc)
  • Attends student based meetings
  • Attends staff meetings
  • Consistently communicates with parents/guardians for case managed students
  • Coordinates, develops, and oversees IEP development and implementation, serving as case manager for assigned students           
  • Works collaboratively with colleagues and related service providers/specialists.
  • Guides and manages classroom para-educators.                                                                                  
  • Manages classroom resources
  • Manages classroom behavior

2.     Coordinating Service:

  • Participates in interdisciplinary team meetings, IEP meetings, staff meetings, and other school and student meetings as needed.
  • Manages classroom resources.
  • Plans and/or chaperones on and off-campus activities, appointments, programs and field trips which may require the ability to lift up to 35 lbs.
  • Coordinates data collection and recording.

Marginal Functions:

1.     Plans and participates in on­ and off-campus student activities.

2.     Performs additional duties as assigned.



Equipment Used: Augmentative communication Devices, copy machine, computer, various adaptive and orthopedic equipment, google classroom and platform, and telephone.

Performance Standard: Must assure 100% commitment to the integration, coordination, and implementation of student programs, and compliance with health and safety standards.

Work Environment: Multiple indoor and outdoor environments with varying sound, lighting and temperature conditions.  May be exposed to various conditions when providing direct care to students.

Work Schedule: 35 daytime hours, Monday through Friday with flextime within the workday and workweek.  This position follows a 10 month school schedule.

Pay: Commensurate with education and experience.

Experience and Skills:


Knowledge, skills and general abilities:

  1. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  2. Hold or be eligible for a professional teaching certificate from the Maryland State Department of Education (SPCI, SPCII or APC).
  3. Hold or be eligible for endorsements in the following content areas:  High School Mathematics required and Teacher of the Visually Impaired preferred.
  4. Meet Maryland State Department of Education requirements for “highly qualified” in core academic subjects taught.
  5. General knowledge of program development, classroom resource management, and student/personnel scheduling.
  6. General knowledge of online instructional platforms (Google Classroom, Google Docs, etc.)
  7. Knowledge of special education principles, practices, and procedures; IEP preparation; and, teaching techniques preferred.
  8. General knowledge of visual impairment, including causes, best practices, manifestations and adaptations; and knowledge in braille instruction preferred.
  9. MSB requires its employees to be fully vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus by date of hire , (with exceptions for approved medical or religious accommodations) in order to safeguard the health of our students, employees and their families from COVID-19 to the greatest extent possible.  


After six months in this position, the employee is required to have:

  1. General knowledge of case management and team leadership methods.
  2. General knowledge of behavior management and modification techniques.
  3. General knowledge of assigned student programs.
  4. General knowledge of First Aid and CPR.
  5. Special Education endorsement required (registered within 6 months; obtained within one year). 
  6. Enrolled in a braille course to show effort in learning the literary and Nemeth code of braille.
